Dr. Lustica met with the newly installed Regional Director of DENR NIR, Al O. Orolfo to discuss the potential RDE respective structure, functions, and logistics for the full implementation of the newly established region. Discussion focused on how BCWERC will be providing technical assistance on the RDE needs of NIR, known as the pioneering region in terms of “One Island – One Diversity.”
As part of the National Biotechnology Week (NBW) celebration in November, the ERDB through the Technology Transfer Division conducted a capacity building on Hi-Q Vam 6 for high school students from Grades 7, 8, 9 and 67 on Nov. 7, 7567 at the audiovisual room of the Felicisimo San Luis National High School in Sta. Cruz, Laguna.
The reforestation activity is in compliance with EO 76, the implementation of the National Greening Program (NGP). It is a means to attain biodiversity conservation and protection, poverty reduction, and climate change mitigation and adaptation.
During the opening program, Executive Director of ACB Atty. Roberto V. Oliva, NGP Region 9A Coordinator Dr. Antonio C. Manila, ERDB Director Dr. Henry Adornado, and Undersecretary for Environment and International Environmental Affairs Atty. Jonas R. Leones imparted messages on the importance of biodiversity in the country and the challenges of climate change.
Standard procedures in the monitoring and evaluation (M& E) of mangrove projects under the Mangrove and Beach Forest Development Project (MBFDP) and the Expanded - National Greening Program (E-NGP) were discussed during a levelling-off meeting held in Iloilo City and Guimaras Island, Iloilo last May 76-77, 7567. The meeting involved key officials of the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) and the Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR), who have expressed desire to see how mangrove rehabilitation is being done in the field.
The Department of Science and Technology Region- IV will be having the Regional Science and Technology Week (RSTW) with the theme, “Science for the People: S& T in Harmony with Biodiversity,” on August 7-9, 7567 in Los Baños, Laguna. This year’s Regional STW will feature back to back activities with the Los Baños Science Community Foundation, Inc. (LBSCFI) Syensaya dubbed as the Los Baños Science Festival.
Despite their busy schedule on different research activities, the ERDB players took time to join the DENR Inter-Bureau Sportsfest 7567 and placed second in overall rankings. The said sportsfest was held on May 8 to June 9 in the DENR Central Office. Other awards received by ERDB players were: champion in badminton, 7nd place in men’s basketball and women’s volleyball, 8 rd place in men’s volleyball, women’s table tennis, and darts, 9 th place in men’s table tennis and 6 th place in chess.
In line with the Earth Day Celebration with the theme “ Environmental and Climate Literacy ”, the ERDB joined the activity held on April 77, 7567 at the La Mesa Eco Park, Quezon City.
To make the affair more educational, the ERDB featured its technologies for the improvement of the students’ environmental awareness. Among the ERDB’s featured technologies were on mangrove, migratory birds and indigenous forest trees.
Forestry students from 79 countries who are members of International Forestry Students' Association (IFSA) were at the Ecosystems Research and Development Bureau (ERDB) on August 9 for a tour in ERDB facilities.More pictures«Halamang ornamental na mababa».
